This was a Lavender field in England, but devoid of flowering Lavender at the time. So, I decided to take the pleasing 'S' curves home, and play with the image saturation and hue in PhotoShop.

This is a Cotswold stone barn which looks different each year as it depends on what crops are planted around it.
Compositionally I decided to lop off the right side of the barn to 'strengthen' the juxtaposition of shape and colour.

Farm in Langdale, Lake District: Image copyright John T. Baker Photographer LLC
JBS-ENGLAND-61
The limited size of the image doesn't reveal what a classic Lake district scene this is with it's wall and lane lead-in to the whitewashed farmhouse, and mountain peak . . . but it surely is!
A wide-angle set at f.22, and a tripod are recommended for this shot.

SteamTrain: Image copyright John T. Baker Photographer LLC
JBS-ENGLAND-62
I'm from England, and rode on such steam trains when I was but a wee lad. The 'Beeching axe' closed many local lines back in 1962, but the following decades have seen a number re-opened by volunteer railway enthusiasts, and they make excellent picture opportunities.

LONDON

JBS-ENGLAND-66
Big Ben and one of the horses from Britannia's chariot monument.
The growth of the tree has changed the shot over the years, but it stills says 'London' loudly.

JBS-ENGLAND-67
Could be any city in any country, but there is something 'British' about the shot! The symmetry of the stone pillars is what appealed to me first, and then I waited for those gentlemen to come along.

At right, another view of Big Ben, this one a 200mm perspective looking back from Trafalgar Square.

JBS-ENGLAND-70
Even in the middle of London, wildlife thrives. This Red Squirrel's immediate neighbours in St. James Park are Pelicans, Moorhens, Geese and ducks.

Then left, Westminster Abbey shines whatever the lighting.

JBS-ENGLAND-71
A stitched image of Buckingham Palace.

JBS-ENGLAND-72

At left, a Royal Guardsman on duty at Buckingham Palace. The changing of the guard ceremony is a spectacular part of my London photography tours.

JBS-ENGLAND-73
Where there are showers, there are umbrellas. It helps that the umbrella is a Union Jack! This was taken with a slow shutter speed to achieve motion blur.

JBS-ENGLAND-74
The changing of the guard at Buckingham Palace. As traditional as fish and chips!

JBS-ENGLAND-75
The first of a Tower Bridge pair under moody skies. The foreground in this one is a sun-dial.

Tower Bridege at Twilight, London: Image copyright John T. Baker Photographer LLC
JBS-ENGLAND-76
Tower bridge number two framed with a dolphin sculpture. Both these shots are wide angles, so good depth of field is needed to get the images sharp from foreground to background. A suggested aperture for such shots is f.16 to f.64.

JBS-ENGLAND-77
A Lifeguard with no swimming pool in sight!
These folks don't move too often, so you get plenty of time to compose such shots, though I'd recommend a long lens over getting to close and him 'asking' you to leave! Note that the gentleman above is a blonde, and the chap at right a redhead.

JBS-ENGLAND-79
Twilight on the Embankment of the River Thames, with the London Eye at left plus Big Ben, and the Houses of Parliament at right. Tripod, f.11 to f.22, and bracket your exposures.

JBS-ENGLAND-80
The London Eye by day framing Big Ben, the famed London clock tower.

JBS-ENGLAND-81
The London Eye in a night-time 'contemporary' mode.

JBS-ENGLAND-82
While out with the group on an evening shoot I spotted the different colored lighting on these steps,
so it was tripods, and small apertures for a very different city perspective.

JBS-ENGLAND-89
A grab shot with intentional blur. It's what you get with a hand held shot with a third of a second exposure.
I added a little bit of zoom blur to enhance the effect of movement.

JBS-ENGLAND-83
London's newest bridge, the Millennium footbridge leads literally and compositionally to St. Paul's cathedral on the north bank of the Thames River in London

JBS-ENGLAND-84
